I inherited a sauer 90 30 06 from my dad a few years back. it is without question the most beautiful rifle i've ever seen. the bolt action is the smoothest i've seen. these rifles are for me pure quality. the problem with it is it's so nice i've never fired it. i don't know if my dad ever fired it either, however there is a nice scope mounted.
Jp Sauer Model 80 Bolt Action Rifle With Zeiss 1. yes, it is a sauer 80. a few of the 90s may have come in as colts because colt got into financial trouble about that time, dropped the bolt actions, and sauer and mel forbes went off on their own. 2. i don't remember on the colt. sauers have had them left and right side, very quiet. 3. 7.5 lbs most have longer barrels. .30 06s and .270s are. Sauer 80, 90 and 92 are bolt action rifles using a non rotating bolt with rear locking lugs expanded against matching lugs inside the rear of the action by rotating the bolt handle down. the rifle is known for having a relatively short for the calibre and very smooth bolt travel and has been described as “the most accurate rifle ever made,” and “these are the smoothest actions you will. So is a barnard, but the smoothest of them all is a bat. however when you get to the quality of any of these actons you are splitting hairs. ou will find that the bolt lift will be a bit easier on a 2 lug (90 degree lift) action than a 3 lug (60 degree lift) only because the angle of the cocking ramp is not a steep on the 2 lug. Although built on the same action, the cg 3000 is not quite as nicely made and finished as the corresponding sauer 80s, 90s, and colt sauers. of course, the latter are going at a higher price with a typical lightly used or like new one going for $1500 $2500 cdn here in canada or $1100 $1800 usd.
