In this series of videos, the down to earth woodworker, steven johnson, designs and builds a cedar garden potting bench. the best of the down to earth woodworker steve johnson, aka the down to earth woodworker, has been entertaining the readers of wood news for many years now with his tales of renovating his shop, visiting local woodworking. Set a marking gauge to 1 1 2″ so you can scribe shoulder lines for the tenons all the way around the ends of the parts. then install a wide dado blade in your table saw and raise it to 3 4″ high. saw away the waste with a wide dado blade raised to 3 4″. back up these cuts with a miter gauge. During the 5 video series of building two versions of the cedar garden potting bench, i drilled well over two hundred pilot holes, made over two hundred countersinks, and drove the same number of screws. all of this was done over a six week period.
