Classic Meets Modern With This 16 Daysailer Wooden Sailboat Classic 1. oday daysailer manotick, on. aug 7, 2013. #1. hi all, i was recently given a 16' o'day daysailer. my brother's in laws bought it and the trailer about 10 years ago and it's been in storage ever since. as the pictures show, it's in desperate need of some fibreglass and wood work (and soap!). the hull number is 1985, class 249. About belle. belle reflects my own thoughts on the ideal small daysailer, since she was designed initially for my own use. that said, after launch i was very gratified to receive positive comments and appreciations of the boat. thus the “belle” design was born. all boats are compromises but a good daysailer should, in my book, be not too. By far the best photo of belle was taken by benjamin mendlowitz for the 2015 calendar of wooden boats: click to see a copy at his facebook page. the original belle is now with a new owner in the chesapeake. in october 2017, he took her to the mid atlantic small craft festival in st. michaels maryland where, from 100 entries, she won a first place. Re: 17' daysailer, seaworthy and easy to build. the longitudinal stringers that john welsford uses in many of his designs like the pathfinder enables those of us less skilled in the art of boat building to produce somewhat complicated hull shapes that are fair and true because the stringers define the plank shapes for us.
